14 – Networking

Networking

1. Best way to inject life into your business

2. Chance to learn from other investors

3. Best way to become known in your market; locally as well as nationally/internationally

4. Create lasting friendships with peers in industry.

5. Helps you to find mentors, partners.

  • Mentors are the absolute best way to hasten the leaning process.
  • Partners will help fill in the gaps in your skills and abilities.

6. Can lead to speaking engagements

  • Will accelerate your authority in industry
  • Will help people feel more comfortable

Note: I jump at most opportunities to speak in front of people; i has led to many of my most valuable connections.

7. Some networking opportunities:

a. Local REIAs

  • Most will let you go free for the first month. Take advantage of this. Go to as many as you can and introduce yourself
  • Try to add value and tell everyone what you are doing. Ask for feedback

b. Online forums. This is a crowded space:

  • Harder to become noticed, but regular engagement will make a difference.
  • Always give before you ask for anything.
  • Try to add value and tell everyone what you are doing. Ask for feedback

c. Local meet-ups

  • Generally can find real estate meet-ups
  • Don’t be afraid to go to general “business” meet-ups too.
  • Try to add value and tell everyone what you are doing. Ask for feedback.

d. Any other local groups like Chamber of Commerce.

e. Start a meet-up or REIA if one does not exist.

f. Become a connector. Make introductions to people who would benefit from working together, and do not ask for anything in return.

8. Networking and being social is a necessary part of business. If you are not good at it, practice–get out there.

  • Don’t be fake, be yourself. People see through fake.
